Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. is seeking a Software Development Engineer for the Hyperplane team, delivering a distributed NFV platform used across AWS infrastructure. You will own design of high-throughput data and control planes, mentor engineers, and collaborate with security, networking, and product teams.

You will write scalable code in C++, Rust, or Java, participate in on-call rotations, and influence long-term technical direction for ultra-low latency cloud networking at AWS scale.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development experience.
• 8+ years of programming in at least one language.
• 8+ years of leading design or architecture of new and existing systems; experience as a mentor or tech lead.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable distributed systems powering AWS EC2's network virtualization infrastructure.
• Lead design and architecture decisions for Hyperplane components including packet processing and traffic management.
• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and design discussions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver customer-facing features and improvements.
• Optimize system performance through profiling and benchmarking to meet latency and throughput targets.
• Participate in on-call rotations, troubleshoot production issues, and drive operational excellence initiatives.
• Contribute to long-term technical strategy and roadmap planning for architectural improvements.
• Write high-quality, maintainable code in C++, Rust, or Java with proper testing, docs, and deployment.
