Job summary

J&T Business Consulting seeks a senior Cloud Software Engineer to design, develop, and optimize big data cloud architectures in Annapolis, MD. You will work on back-end processing, distributed computing, and data indexing using Hadoop and cloud technologies.

You will lead implementation of Java applications, RESTful services, and MapReduce analytics for large datasets, while ensuring secure, scalable multi-node deployments and JVM performance tuning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus 12 years of software engineering experience (4+ years in Big Data/cloud)
• 16 years of software engineering experience without a degree
• Master’s degree substitutes for 2 years of experience
• 2+ years in Cloud/Distributed Information Retrieval
• 1+ year in Cloud Bigtable, HDFS, MapReduce, coordination frameworks, multi-node cloud management, debugging distributed frameworks
• 2+ years in cloud & distributed computing

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, test, and maintain distributed Big Data cloud systems and back-end processing pipelines.
• Implement custom Java applications, RESTful web services, and MapReduce analytics for large-scale data sets.
• Build and integrate software interfacing with Cloud Bigtable, HDFS, and coordination frameworks.
• Design workflows for ingesting, parsing, normalizing, and indexing diverse data formats.
• Manage multi-node cloud installations across Linux/CentOS environments.
• Secure distributed applications using PKI certificates, firewalls, server authentication, and enterprise identity services.
• Provide technical leadership on hardware/software trade-offs, COTS/GOTS integration, and software component reuse.
• Profile and optimize Java Virtual Machine (JVM) memory allocation and application performance.
