Job summary

Akamai Technologies, Inc. in Cambridge is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to own platform development for compute and GPU servers. You will guide NPI from EVT to MP, lead bring-up and debug of boards, and collaborate with OEM/ODM and suppliers to balance performance and cost.

Applicants should have 8+ years of hardware experience, a Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering, and strong Linux scripting abilities to automate tests and generate data-driven insights.

Qualifications

• 8 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or a related field.
• Foundation in server architecture and board-level design/debug; comfortable with low-level buses and tools (IC, SPI, UART, oscilloscopes).
• Platform validation experience including power/thermal, signal integrity, storage and PCIe/NVMe qualification, system stress.
• Proficiency in Linux and scripting (Python, Bash); ability to automate tests, parse logs, and build data-driven reports.
• Vendor management: translate requirements into clear specs, negotiate trade-offs, and hold partners to schedule/quality.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting in groups.

Responsibilities

• Owning platform development for compute and GPU servers.
• Defining requirements, reviewing schematics/layouts, guiding DFM, and driving platform NPI from EVT to MP.
• Leading bring-up and debug of boards and systems (power, thermal, storage, networking, manageability).
• Developing and executing validation plans; root-cause analysis across HW/FW/SW.
• Collaborating with OEM/ODM, silicon and component suppliers to balance performance, efficiency, supply continuity and TCO.
• Managing firmware/BIOS/OpenBMC features (performance/power/thermal, secure boot, provisioning, telemetry).
• Qualifying technologies: PCIe Gen5/Gen6 GPUs, CPUs, NICs, DPUs, NVMe drives, DRAM.
• Designing and validating GPU platforms including PCIe/NVLink/UALink topologies, power/thermal envelopes, reliability.
