Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to support the VA Data Modernization initiative, focusing on vulnerability remediation and secure cloud access. You will lead security guidance across AWS and Azure, enabling rapid, scalable data ingestion while maintaining VA security standards.

You will provide end-to-end security support, drive SIA processes, and collaborate with data, DevTest, and production teams to embed security into automated workflows. Remote within the United States.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus 12 years in cybersecurity/IT or commensurate experience.
• Experience in security engineering, cloud security, or cybersecurity compliance.
• Strong knowledge of NIST, RMF, FedRAMP or similar frameworks.
• Experience conducting Security Impact Analyses (SIA) and risk assessments.
• Proficiency with Azure security tools, IAM, service principals, and RBAC.
• Ability to translate security requirements to technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Identify, analyze, and remediate vulnerabilities across UNIX/Linux, VMware, and container workloads.
• Apply security practices to AWS and Azure cloud environments ensuring compliant configurations.
• Provide end‑to‑end security support for Data Modernization initiatives.
• Deliver surge support for secure data ingestion in VA environments.
• Guide users through the Security Impact Analysis process and document risks.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to embed security in automated workflows.
