Job summary

IBM Software is seeking a senior backend engineer to join Confluent's platform efforts in a cloud-native, multi-tenant environment. You will design and implement scalable backend services, drive architectural decisions, and ensure high availability across distributed systems.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor engineers, and contribute to observability, incident response, and deployment automation while advancing IBM's AI-powered, cloud-native product strategy.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing and supporting backend systems in production.
• Strong Python programming and ecosystem knowledge.
• Experience with cloud platforms and container orchestration.
• Proven leadership in projects and cross-team collaboration.
• Excellent communication and on-call experience.

Responsibilities

• Own and lead design and implementation of backend services.
• Balance reliability, scalability, and operability while communicating tradeoffs.
• Drive end-to-end projects from design to production.
• Improve observability and define SLOs/SLAs.
• Collaborate on APIs and data models across teams.
• Mentor engineers and drive continuous improvement.
