Job summary

IBM Software is seeking an experienced backend engineer to design and build cloud-native, multi-tenant systems. You’ll help scale real-time data platforms, drive end-to-end technical delivery, and shape the architecture of a high-availability service ecosystem.

With 4+ years in backend development and strong proficiency in Python and at least one of Java/Go/C/C++, you’ll contribute to observability, reliability, and performance while mentoring teammates and influencing technical direction.

Qualifications

• 4+ years industry experience designing, building, and supporting backend systems in production.
• Strong knowledge of Python runtime environments and at least one major programming language (Python/Java/Go/C/C++).
• Experience with public cloud (AWS/GCP/Azure), containers, and orchestration.
• Leadership track record: driving projects and coordinating across teams.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills; experience with observability and incident response.
• Familiarity with SLOs/SLAs and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Own and lead the design and implementation of complex backend services in a cloud-native environment.
• Make architecture choices balancing reliability, scalability, performance, and operability.
• Drive end-to-end projects from requirements through production rollout.
• Improve service reliability by defining observability and participating in on-call.
• Collaborate to define APIs, data models, and integration points.
• Identify platform improvements and tooling to raise engineering productivity.
• Mentor engineers through reviews and guidance.
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and high standards.
