Job summary

Symbotic LLC seeks a Principal Cloud Architect to lead cloud architecture strategy on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and define standards for a scalable, secure, AI-enabled platform. You will guide migrations of 100+ environments to GCP, design self-service platforms, and partner with Security, DevOps, and product teams across cloud, on-premises, and edge environments.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
12+ years designing and implementing enterprise and cloud architectures, including at least one large-scale cloud migration or platform modernization you personally led.
5+ years in a Principal Architect, Lead Architect, or equivalent senior technical leadership role.
Deep expertise with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) including GKE, IAM, VPC design, and data services.
Proven experience operating at high scale with rapid automated provisioning of large fleets and data.
Strong experience with Kubernetes, containers, microservices, distributed systems, and APIs.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred) and GitOps-driven delivery.
Experience building self-service Platform Engineering, CI/CD, and DevOps solutions.
Strong understanding of cloud security and isolation models, identity, networking, observability, disaster recovery, and backup strategies.
Cloud cost management / FinOps experience at enterprise scale.

Responsibilities

Define and govern enterprise cloud architecture and cloud-native platform standards on GCP, and own the multi-year cloud platform roadmap.
Architect for hyperscale growth: provisioning, networking, and data architectures that scale to hundreds or thousands of instances and petabyte-scale daily data.
Lead large-scale cloud migration and modernization, moving 100+ environments to GCP alongside Kubernetes-based platform initiatives.
Build a true self-service platform with guardrails, resource pools, and merge-visibility controls.
Partner with Security to establish workload isolation, disaster recovery, and backup strategies.
Own cloud cost optimization and FinOps.
Champion AI-powered engineering and automated operations to boost team velocity.
Drive Platform Engineering capabilities including CI/CD, GitOps, and Infrastructure as Code.
Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, run architecture review forums, and influence enterprise technology strategy.
