Job summary

Symbotic is seeking a Principal Cloud Architect to define and drive cloud architecture strategy on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for a ground-floor cloud build-out. The role focuses on scalable, secure, and AI-enabled platforms with a hands-on, player-coach approach.

You will lead migrations of 100+ environments to GCP, design self-service access, guardrails, and cost-conscious architecture across hybrid cloud and edge environments for robotics-driven operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Define and govern enterprise cloud architecture and cloud-native platform standards on GCP, and own the multi-year cloud platform roadmap.
• Architect for hyperscale growth—design provisioning, networking, and data architectures that scale to hundreds or thousands of instances and petabyte-scale daily data.
• Lead large-scale cloud migration and modernization, moving 100+ environments to GCP alongside greenfield, Kubernetes-based platform initiatives from strategy through production adoption.
• Build a true self-service platform, not a ticket-driven service—developer self-service, golden paths, resource-pool provisioning with guardrails, and visibility controls.
• Partner with Security to establish workload isolation across cloud hierarchies, secure disaster recovery, and snapshot/backup capabilities for rapid recovery.
• Own cloud cost optimization and FinOps—design for efficiency within a disciplined budget.
• Champion AI-powered engineering—from AI-assisted development to automated operations—to increase output with a small team.
• Drive Platform Engineering capabilities including CI/CD, GitOps, and Infrastructure as Code to improve developer velocity.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, run architecture review forums, and influence enterprise tech strategy with executives.
