Datavail is seeking a Senior Database Engineer/SQL Server DBA to support mission-critical database systems across diverse clients. This role emphasizes automation, cloud-native platforms, and proactive problem prevention rather than reactive firefighting.

The primary DBA for multiple clients will blend hands-on engineering with consultative guidance, and travel up to 20% for on-site client visits to strengthen relationships and service delivery.

Qualifications

• Senior SQL Server DBA with proactive, engineering-focused mindset.
• Experience advising on cloud strategy and architecture for SQL Server.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% for client onsite visits.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, proactively identifying performance, availability, and security risks.
• Advise on cloud database architecture, migration, and cost optimization across AWS and Azure.
• Lead architecture design, disaster recovery planning, and capacity forecasting.
• Own end-to-end DB service lifecycle: backups, HA/DR, tuning, roadmap.
• Define and track SLOs for DB availability and performance; drive automated remediation.
• Design scalable DB structures including partitioning and audit specs.
• Develop deployment/rollback scripts and coordinate version updates.
• Build automation (Python, PowerShell) for backup validation, monitoring, and reporting.
