Job summary

VSO is hiring a Senior DevOps/Platform Engineer for a fully remote role in the United States. You will own CI/CD automation, container builds, and GitOps workflows, deploying and operating cloud-native platforms across enterprise environments.

You will design, build, automate, and operate the foundation for secure, scalable, and observable platforms, working with Kubernetes, IaC (Terraform/Ansible), and security practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum of 3 years building and operating production cloud-native platforms in DevOps/SRE/platform roles.
• Experience designing and building GitLab CI/CD pipelines with automated build/test/deploy workflows.
• Hands-on production experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience deploying and managing Kubernetes apps using Helm or Kustomize.
• Experience implementing GitOps with Argo CD or Flux.
• Experience automating infrastructure with Terraform/Ansible.
• Proficiency scripting with Bash and Python.
• Experience with observability stacks (Prometheus/Grafana/ELK/OpenSearch/Splunk).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement, and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines for platform services from source to production.
• Automate builds, tests, validation, packaging, and deployment processes.
• Build, scan, sign, and publish container images using Docker and related tooling.
• Develop repeatable deployment processes to improve reliability and reduce manual effort.
• Collaborate with development teams to integrate applications into automated pipelines.
• Deploy, configure, and operate containerized apps in production Kubernetes environments.
• Use Helm or Kustomize to package and manage deployments.
• Implement GitOps deployment workflows with Argo CD or Flux.
• Establish version-controlled infrastructure and configurations.
• Support platform upgrades, environment consistency, and scalability.
• Engineer zero-downtime deployments with rolling, blue/green, or canary strategies.
• Develop and test rollback procedures to minimize disruption.
• Design IaC provisioning with Terraform, Ansible, or comparable tools.
• Develop reusable infrastructure configurations and deployment templates.
• Automate environment creation and maintenance across dev/test/prod.
• Write Bash and Python scripts for operations and automation.
• Improve deployment efficiency, security, and reliability through automation.
• Design observability solutions covering metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and alerting.
• Configure monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, Splunk).
• Establish monitoring and alerting to detect performance issues and failures.
• Troubleshoot platform reliability and deployment issues.
• Collaborate to improve system availability and resilience.
• Design backup/recovery procedures for platform services and data stores.
• Establish disaster recovery processes aligned with RPO/RTO.
• Support backup testing across environments.
• Contribute to runbooks and platform docs.
• Identify opportunities to increase reliability and scalability.
• Integrate security scanning into pipelines and follow secure deployment practices.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity teams on compliance requirements.
