Job summary

Gusto is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for its Cloud Infrastructure team to shape architecture, IaC patterns, and reliability across production AWS environments. You will drive multi-account design, disaster recovery, and scalable tooling for a SaaS platform.

This role demands hands-on Terraform/OpenTofu, Spacelift experience, and a track record delivering large-scale infra initiatives. Travel to onboarding and office sites may be required.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in infrastructure, platform, or SRE.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain AWS infrastructure using Terraform/OpenTofu.
• Improve Spacelift workflows across Gusto.
• Migrate services to multi-account AWS architecture.
• Strengthen disaster recovery and compliance readiness.
• Refactor infrastructure code into modular components.
• Support engineering teams with cloud infra needs.
• Leverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate infra and automate tasks.
• Participate in on-call rotation for internal engineering support.
