Job summary

PayPal is seeking a Senior Cloud Database Engineer in Scottsdale, AZ to lead strategic initiatives for available, scalable, secure, and efficient database platforms across petabyte‑scale environments.

You will architect cloud‑native, multi‑cloud solutions, build IaC frameworks, automate DB operations, and design monitoring/observability with high throughput systems. Collaboration with product engineering and data teams is required.

Qualifications

3+ years relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
Proficiency with BigTable, Oracle, MySQL/MariaDB, Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, BigQuery and Kubernetes.
Expertise in Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, and GitOps automation frameworks.
Strong Python and SQL programming; Bash/Java/Scala familiarity.
Experience in AWS, GCP, and Azure; Linux admin and distributed systems skills.
Observability tools such as Grafana, Datadog, and ELK; focus on reliability.

Responsibilities

Design, deploy, and manage high‑performance database clusters across multiple platforms.
Architect multi‑cloud database solutions on AWS, GCP, and Azure.
Build IaC frameworks using Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, and Packer.
Automate schema deployment with GitOps and CI/CD workflows.
Lead incident response, self‑healing, and failover strategies.
Develop observability and alerting with Grafana, Datadog, and Prometheus.
Create Python tooling and AI‑driven optimization for databases.
Ensure security, compliance, and documentation best practices.
