Job summary

AbbVie seeks a Principal Data Architect to shape a cloud-native data foundation enabling AI/ML in discovery. You will own architecture, adoption, and continuous improvement of a scalable platform that connects lab data across assays and supports ML development and deployment.

The role reports to the Head of AI/ML in BGM and works with wet lab scientists, ML engineers, software/data engineers, and governance partners; hybrid work with Worcester, MA base.

Qualifications

• MS with 14+ years or PhD with 8+ years in ML, CS, math, data science, or related field.
• Experience designing enterprise data platforms and scalable data architectures.
• Strong skills in data modeling, integration, storage, pipelines, and AI/ML integration.

Responsibilities

• Define architecture for a scalable, cloud-native data platform enabling AI/ML in discovery.
• Design data models and integration patterns across lab data for certified datasets.
• Collaborate with wet lab scientists and automation engineers to maximize data value.
• Ensure data pipelines support model development and production deployment.
• Advance FAIR data practices and data stewardship aligned with strategic priorities.
• Promote data-as-a-product and cloud-first architectural principles.
• Coordinate with governance to implement data policies effectively.
• Align data infrastructure initiatives with broader AbbVie programs.
• Communicate platform impact with stories, metrics, and KPIs.
