Job summary

The State of North Carolina's Department of Public Instruction is seeking a Cloud Architect (NS) to provide senior technical leadership for the design, implementation, and maturation of DPI’s enterprise cloud environment in alignment with state strategy. You will collaborate with cybersecurity, data teams, vendors, and agency leadership to translate needs into practical cloud solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or closely related field and six years of progressive IT experience including four years of cloud-architecture design/implementation.
• Or associate degree with seven years of IT experience including five years in cloud architecture design/implementation.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may qualify.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and mature secure, scalable, reliable, and cost-effective cloud solutions meeting DPI requirements.
• Guide landing zones, network segmentation, identity integration, logging, monitoring, and cost governance.
• Develop architecture standards, reference architectures, and implementation guidance for DPI cloud environments.
• Design observability, backup, DR, incident readiness patterns for cloud-hosted systems.
• Ensure security, privacy, compliance, and audit requirements are met in cloud solutions.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity, data, and application teams to align with DPI/state needs.
• Provide cloud-architecture leadership for modernization of core systems (finance, HR, payroll, grants).
