Job summary

Quantum Sky in Reston, VA seeks a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, and operate cloud and AI infrastructure behind Project 137. You will own GCP, Kubernetes, and data workloads, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, secure platforms.

The role is 85% hands-on engineering and 15% project coordination, with opportunities to shape platform tooling, CI/CD pipelines, and MLOps practices across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field. Equivalent experience considered.
• 5+ years in infrastructure, platform, cloud, or site reliability engineering including 2+ years on Google Cloud Platform.
• Deep Google Cloud expertise across Compute Engine, GKE, VPC, Cloud IAM, Cloud Storage, Cloud Operations.
• AI infrastructure experience in production with GPU/TPU provisioning, training, inference, and MLOps tools such as Vertex AI or Kubeflow.
• Kubernetes production experience including cluster ops, Helm, networking/ingress, RBAC, autoscaling, upgrades.
• Strong Terraform and Git-based workflows; experience with CI/CD tooling like Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Argo CD.
• Scripting proficiency in Python, Go, or Bash; solid Linux, TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, and hybrid cloud connectivity.
• Organizational ability to plan, schedule, and track work across multiple streams using Jira/Confluence.
• Excellent written and verbal communication to explain trade-offs to engineers, researchers, and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate production infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform and Kubernetes.
• Scale infrastructure for AI/ML workloads including GPU/TPU provisioning and model serving.
• Support Vertex AI, Kubeflow, and MLOps tooling with environment provisioning and experiment infra.
• Build and maintain hybrid connectivity between on-prem and cloud environments.
• Architect and operate GKE clusters with GPU node pools, autoscaling, and upgrades.
• Develop reusable platform components and Helm charts for self-service access to compute and AI tooling.
• Define infrastructure with Terraform and GitOps, using Git as truth for configurations and CI/CD pipelines.
• Mentor engineers, lead design reviews, and document standards and runbooks.
• Plan and schedule infrastructure workstreams across engineering, research, and operations.
