Job Summary:

Manage advanced clinical research studies for product development initiatives in the contact lens industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and manage all aspects of clinical evaluation of product performance, including study design, clinical protocol writing, clinical study execution, statistical analysis, clinical report writing, results delivery, and participation in R&D technical teams, under direction of clinical management.
  • Coordinate standardized clinical protocol execution with established clinical research centers.
  • Possess strong research design knowledge, hypothesis testing, and technical communication skills.
  • Stay informed of literature and other knowledge related to contact lenses.
  • Be aware of basic regulatory requirements related to medical devices (GCP/IRB/Design Control/FDA & ISO standards/EU MDR, etc.) and apply this knowledge under the direction of clinical management.
  • Conduct basic clinical assessments; serve as Sub-Investigator under the direction of Principal Investigator.
  • Apply learnings from prior experience, current trends in clinical research, and competitor awareness to product development activities and invention applications; publish or present in scientific forums as needed.
  • Travel to clinical sites as needed.

Travel: Occasional travel to clinical sites as required.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Research design, statistical analysis, medical writing, GCP, and Design Control knowledge.
  • Understanding of biological and optical contributors to contact lens safety and performance.
  • Optometry/Ophthalmology knowledge and experience are desirable.
  • Attention to detail, systematic approach, and meticulous work ethic.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including medical and scientific terminology.
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new information.
  • Working knowledge of computer operating systems.
  • Strong Excel database skills.
  • Well-organized, able to multitask, and adaptable to changing priorities.

Work Environment:

  • Normal office environment and ophthalmic clinical exam room.
  • Sedentary to light physical effort required.
  • Extensive contact with employees and outside researchers.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the contact lens or medical device industry.

Education:

  • (OD or equivalent + MS) or (OD or equivalent + 2 years) or (PhD + 2 years).
  • Clinical or Research degree in Vision Science, Visual Optics, Physiological Optics, or Optometry/Ophthalmology highly preferred.
  • Clinical licensure in CA is desirable but not mandatory.

For U.S. locations that require disclosure of compensation, the starting base pay for this role is between $142,115.00 and $162,417.00 per year, which may include cost of living adjustments. The actual base pay depends on many factors and is subject to change. This position may also be eligible for other benefits.
