Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead complex IT and business projects within Health System Information Services (HSIS) in Birmingham, Alabama. The role involves gathering requirements, mapping workflows, coordinating teams, and communicating project status to executive leadership.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's in Information Systems with 8+ years of related experience and may have PM certifications (PMP, Agile, Six Sigma).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or a related field and eight (8) years of related experience required.
  • Work experience may not substitute for education requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manages complex and/or large projects and other meetings including documentation of participants, next steps and decisions made at the meeting.
  • Leads activities of project team(s) including scheduling and facilitating team meetings.
  • Create long and short-term project plans, to include setting project milestones, target completion dates and ensuring all deadlines are adhered to.
  • Serves as point of contact for teams when multiple units are assigned to the same project to ensure team actions remain in synergy.
  • Adjusts project schedule and target completion dates on the project as needed to accommodate for change related to the project.
  • Communicates with executives or HSIS leadership to ensure the project is aligned with department goals.
  • Documents and monitors any and all risks associated with the project.
  • Updates project sponsor and team regarding project status and progress on a regular basis.
  • Performs contract analysis including addressing any data stewardship concerns.
  • Along with project sponsors, identifies measurable benefits of proposed projects.
  • Convenes various standing or committee meetings as needed or as directed by supervisor.
  • May author or assist with the authoring of departmental or project related communication.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Description

To gather and review business requirements, technical specifications, business process redesign and information workflow. Identify appropriate resources to map, create and document needed project specifications if business requirements, technical specification or workflow processes do not exist. To document details of project scope and objectives, works with appropriate HSIS leaders to define the role of each project team member in order to effectively define and coordinate the activities of the project team(s). To effectively communicate with customers regularly for the duration of the project; informing them of project delays and issues. To routinely create and/or deliver electronic presentations about project initiation, status and closure to the Office of the Chief Information Officer and attend all relevant huddle meetings. May mentor more junior project management staff and manage their project work as needed.

Qualifications
