Job summary

AbbVie in Chicago, IL seeks an experienced Clinical Operations Program Director to connect science and operations and drive execution of clinical studies across programs. You will lead a global team, manage budgets up to hundreds of millions, and shape risk management, timelines, and regulatory deliverables while mentoring staff and fostering an inclusive, high-performance culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in nursing or scientific field (required).
• An Associate’s degree/R.N. or equivalent with relevant experience is acceptable.
• 12+ years of pharma-related/clinical research experience.
• 10 years in clinical research with global team leadership.
• Strong risk management, decision-making and strategic execution skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a strategic advocate for pipeline assets and provide operational input to scientific experiments.
• Develop clinical operational strategy and execute clinical studies/programs with timelines and enrollment options.
• Evaluate risks and mitigations to asset strategy and propose strategic options.
• Influence cross-functional teams to achieve program objectives across Development Operations and related functions.
• Contribute to portfolio planning with costs, resources, and timelines for development programs.
• Review and provide clinical operations content to regulatory documents (INDs, IBs, NDAs, BLAs, MAAs).
• Oversee external budgeting for programs (potential $20–200M).
• Lead cross-functional initiatives with broad business impact and manage change across teams.
• Develop, mentor and grow clinical operations staff including managers and indirect reports.
• Execute programs in compliance with ICH/GCP and global regulations.
