Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) seeks a Classification and Compensation Supervisor to oversee daily operations of the job classification and compensation programs. You will ensure pay structures, policies, and practices are applied consistently and support organizational needs.

You will lead analyses, advise managers and leaders, and maintain accurate data for internal equity, audits, and compliance reviews while driving process improvements across departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field and at least 4 years of HR experience with some HR lead experience.
• Experience in planning, directing, and coordinating work; knowledge of state and federal laws and equal opportunity guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Supervise staff involved in job analysis, evaluation, and compensation activities.
• Oversee development, maintenance, and review of job descriptions and classification structures.
• Manage job evaluation processes and ensure internal equity and consistency across departments.
• Lead market salary studies and interpret benchmarking data to support compensation recommendations.
• Administer compensation programs, including salary adjustments, reclassifications, pay plan updates, and annual review cycles.
• Advise managers and senior leaders on classification and compensation policies and best practices.
• Review and approve classification recommendations and pay actions to ensure compliance with laws and standards.
• Prepare detailed reports and documentation for leadership, audits, and compliance reviews.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and update related policies and guidelines.
• Ensure data accuracy in HR systems and maintain organized records.
