Job Description

The Senior Claims Specialist manages complex and high visibility workers' compensation claims within company standards and best practices. Responsibilities include working closely with case managers and attorneys, managing subrogation, and negotiating settlements to achieve optimal outcomes, supporting the claims department and CorVel’s goals.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  1. Receive claims, confirm policy coverage, and acknowledge the claim.
  2. Determine validity and compensability of claims by investigating and gathering necessary information and documentation.
  3. Establish reserves and authorize payments within authority limits.
  4. Develop and manage action plans with the team to reduce claim costs.
  5. Coordinate early return-to-work efforts.
  6. Manage subrogation, litigation, and potential recoveries.
  7. Report claims to excess carriers when applicable.
  8. Communicate claim status with customers and claimants.
  9. Adhere to guidelines and participate in reviews.
  10. Develop and maintain professional relationships.
  11. Comply with applicable state rules and regulations.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to develop claims knowledge and understanding.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Knowledge of workers’ compensation claims processes.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 years of industry and claims handling experience.
  • Self-Insured Certificate preferred.
  • State Certification as an experienced Examiner.
  • WC license.
Pay Range

Range: $59,681 – $96,123. Compensation varies based on location, skills, experience, and market conditions. New hires may be slotted into different levels, affecting salary and responsibilities. Details will be clarified during the offer process.
