Job summary

Capital Insurance Group in Phoenix, AZ seeks an experienced attorney to join the Claims Legal team. Under general supervision, the role provides settlements oversight and strategic support for complex claims beyond line unit authority.

Responsibilities include advising claims staff on coverage and indemnification, working with outside counsel, attending mediations, and helping train staff. Must have a JD and active license, 8+ years in P&C insurance. Hybrid work with travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and JD from an accredited law school are required.
• Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction is required.
• Member in good standing of any CIG operating state bar.
• Minimum of 8 years’ experience in property and casualty insurance.
• Experience in claims department and/or law firm setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Consult with claims staff on coverage, indemnification, and policy limit reviews.
• Identify issues necessitating outside counsel and coordinate accordingly.
• Handle some policyholder suits and attend mediations as needed.
• Assist in training claims staff on jurisdictional issues and Fair Claims Practices.
