Job summary

CB&I Senior Civil Structural Engineer in PCC, Plainfield, IL, will design and analyze low-temperature storage tank structures and lead complex projects worldwide.

You will mentor engineers, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, ensure code compliance, and deliver safe, constructible designs for production and operations facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Structural Engineering from an accredited school.
• Familiarity with codes and standards of AISC, ASCE, IBC, API and related seismic codes.
• Professional Engineer license in at least one state; registration desired.
• Experience with LT&C Tank Engineering; ~6+ years.
• Proficient in MS Office and engineering software tools.

Overview

The Senior Civil Structural Engineer will have the opportunity to work on and lead the design and analysis of a wide variety of complex steel and concrete Low Temperature and Cryogenic (LT&C) storage tank structures constructed for CB&I projects throughout the world. The role may be recognized as a subject matter expert within CB&I Storage Solutions for one or more focus areas of civil and structural engineering and may serve as CB&I Storage Solutions industry representative through code committee work or participation in communities of practice.

Responsibilities

The Senior Civil Structural Engineer is responsible for performing or checking the design and analysis of assigned deliverables on a CB&I project associated with a LT&C storage tank structures product line. The work includes among other things design calculations, specification development and construction documents. Over time, capabilities will increase as the level of complexity of assignments increases, with expectations expanding for working independently with less supervision. The role reports to the Department or Design Manager and routinely interacts with other Civil Structural Engineers, Civil Structural Designers, Project Engineers and Managers.

• The design and analysis of LT&C storage structures including steel plate storage structures and concrete outer containment structures.
• Accurately produce assigned deliverables per applicable design code, company standards and customer drawings and specifications.
• Adhere to regulations and bylaws of local professional engineering jurisdictions and code of ethics in protection of the public and the environment.
• Ensure designs and details are safe for field erection and use, with constructability in mind.
• Reliably check and sign off on design calculations, specifications and other deliverables for customer approval or project use per applicable design code, company standards and customer drawings and specifications.
• Run programs to produce design calculations in designated software.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and, depending on size and complexity of scope of work, may be assigned to a leadership role for a project.
• Coordinate with other roles and functions on project team.
• Collaborate with drafters, modelers and detailers, as well as personnel from sales, estimating, operations and project management functions.
• Be able to perform most common design tasks without constant direct supervision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Structural Engineering from an accredited school.
• Familiarity with codes and standards of AISC, ASCE, IBC, API, ACI and associated structural and seismic codes is required.
• Current on new engineering methods and possesses a technical knowledge of CB&I engineering work processes and tools.
• Capable of appropriate use of computer applications and other specialized engineering tools.
• Experience level is generally 6+ years of LT&C Tank Engineering.
• Experience in Microsoft Office Professional.
• Have a Professional Engineering license in at least one state; Professional Engineering registration is desired.
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
