Job summary

The State of Illinois, Department of Transportation, seeks a Prequalification Engineer (Civil Engineer VI) to ensure contractors are prequalified and to develop policies for the Illinois Procurement Code. This is a union position with a hybrid in-office schedule.

Minimum qualifications include Illinois PE or Structural Engineer license and six years of civil engineering experience. Travel statewide and strong leadership and communication skills are required.

Qualifications

• Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois OR Current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois.
• Six years of experience in civil engineering.

Responsibilities

• Administers and oversees contractor prequalification to ensure compliance with policies.
• Issuance of authorization to bid to protect the department and public from unqualified bidders.
• Develops and implements prequalification processes to meet current department needs.
• Trains and evaluates staff to ensure efficient operations.
• Maintains liaison with contractor associations and other agencies.
