Job summary

Metric Geo is seeking an Estimator to join our Austin team. You will prepare cost estimates for civil, municipal and highway underground utility projects and support bids, with a focus on accuracy and timely delivery.

You will analyze drawings, coordinate with project staff, solicit quotations, and maintain cost data. The role requires a degree in construction engineering and at least 5 years of civil estimating experience, with familiarity in geotechnical aspects and industry software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of civil construction (roadway/highway) and underground utility estimating experience.
• Familiarity with geotechnical investigations and reports.
• Experience with HCSS-Heavy Bid and AG-tek; proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Responsibilities

• Analyze blueprints and documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
• Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors.
• Coordinate with Project Coordinators, Project Managers, and Superintendents throughout the project life cycle.
• Work with Engineers, Architects, Owners, Contractors and Subcontractors on changes to cost estimates.
• Prepare estimates used by management for planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
• Prepare cost and expenditure statements at regular intervals through the project life cycle.
• Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects, or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids.
• Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
• Conduct studies to develop standard cost data or cost reduction.
• Solicit quotations from vendors and subcontractors.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and project meetings as required.
• Calculate labor, equipment and materials costs for detailed estimates.
