Job description

We are currently partnered with a nationally recognized heavy civil contractor in their search for a Senior Civil Estimator to join an established preconstruction team in Massachusetts.

The company has been building critical infrastructure for more than 50 years and has developed a strong reputation throughout the Northeast for complex highway, bridge, marine, rail, and transit construction. Their portfolio includes major public infrastructure projects ranging from approximately $5M to $400M, supported by a collaborative estimating and operations team and significant self-perform capabilities.

This position is ideal for an experienced heavy civil estimator who can take ownership of major pursuits, develop accurate pricing and construction strategies, and help lead the estimating process from initial review through final bid.

The Role

• Perform detailed plan and specification analysis, quantity takeoffs, and pricing for heavy civil projects
• Develop complete estimates covering all direct and indirect project costs
• Lead estimating efforts for roadway, bridge, marine, rail/transit, and other complex civil infrastructure projects
• Support projects ranging from approximately $5M to $400M
• Direct and coordinate estimators supporting major pursuits and ensure estimates are accurate and complete
• Develop pre-bid schedules, construction sequencing, crew structures, equipment requirements, production rates, and means and methods
• Work closely with subcontractors and vendors to define scope, solicit pricing, analyze proposals, and identify appropriate partners
• Support Lump Sum, Design-Build, and Unit Price pursuits
• Evaluate project risk, contract requirements, specifications, schedules, site conditions, and constructability
• Partner with operations and project leadership to ensure estimating assumptions align with field execution
• Assist with budgeting, purchasing, cost analysis, and project turnover following successful awards
• Participate in final bid reviews and provide recommendations on pricing, strategy, and potential project risks

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related construction discipline
• 5+ years of heavy civil construction and estimating experience, ideally combining both field and estimating exposure
• Strong estimating background involving roadway, bridge, marine, rail, transit, utility, or other major infrastructure construction
• Strong understanding of self-perform construction, production rates, labor, equipment, materials, and indirect costs
• Experience with Lump Sum, Unit Price, and Design-Build delivery methods
• Ability to independently manage significant estimates and coordinate junior estimators or engineers supporting a pursuit
• Strong subcontractor and vendor scope-analysis experienceProficiency with HCSS HeavyBid or comparable heavy civil estimating software
• Experience with computerized takeoff and/or design programs
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret project information, identify risk, and make recommendations
