Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an experienced civil/environmental/mechanical engineer to lead complex site layout, hydraulics, water distribution and related designs. You will review drafts, ensure compliance with regulations, and supervise junior staff across multiple projects.

You will mentor teams, contribute to proposals, and engage with clients to plan and address current and future design needs. Expect travel up to 20–40% depending on project requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license. 7 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on duties and workload.

Responsibilities

• Reviews draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
• Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
• Performs site reviews and studies to align designs with location specifications.
• Updates design requirements as necessary.
• Contributes to firm's knowledge management by developing white papers and technical design documentation.
• Submits technical papers and designs for publishing in technical journals.
• Collaborates with sales staff to create proposals in response to client RFPs.
• Reviews draft proposals for adherence to regulations and best practices.
• Meets with current and potential clients to review design needs.
• Attends conferences to improve visibility of products and services.
• Provides technical guidance and training to junior staff.
• Mentors junior staff and develops them for growth.
• May supervise junior engineers on project work.
