Job summary

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) seeks a Senior Civil Engineer-Structural to lead design of structural systems for CIP projects, with emphasis on drainage and wastewater facilities. You will work under the CIP Design Section and coordinate with internal design teams, field staff and consultants to deliver safe, code-compliant structures.

Qualifications

• Requires five years’ professional civil engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or civil engineering technology.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Washington.
• Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.

Responsibilities

• Provide structural engineering calculations for design of foundations, piles, thrust restraints, seismic retrofit for tanks, catwalks, pipelines and retaining walls.
• Design / Review of engineered shoring for installation of pipes and structures.
• Provide Engineering calculations for structures identified in the City of Seattle Standard Plans.
• Prepare cost estimates, schedules, engineering and feasibility reports and studies.
• Prepare and stamp design drawings and technical specifications.
• Support facilities staff with review of plans and assets in office and field.
• Support the activities of internal design teams as needed.
• Support crews / projects in field with asset evaluation and field direction during construction as needed.
• Reviews as a Subject Matter Expert deliverables prepared by consultants and other City departments.
• Act as SPU’s project technical lead responsible for facilitating technical design decisions and coordinating SPU’s QA/QC process for structural engineering review
