Placements24 is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer with expertise in roads and infrastructure for a leading engineering consultancy. Based in Upington, Northern Cape, you will lead design, planning and delivery of major transportation projects, directing design teams and ensuring technical excellence.

You will manage complex multi-disciplinary projects, apply SA standards (SANS) and South African practice, and foster strong client relationships while contributing to business growth and innovation

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA advantageous.
• 8+ years of progressive civil engineering experience with focus on roads/infrastructure.
• Experience managing multi-disciplinary projects and tender documentation.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a distinguished engineering consultancy with a strong presence in infrastructure development, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Civil Engineer with specialized expertise in roads and infrastructure projects. Based in Upington, Northern Cape , this role is instrumental in leading the design, planning, and implementation of major transportation and civil infrastructure projects. You will be responsible for managing project teams, ensuring technical excellence, and fostering strong client relationships. The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of road design principles, drainage systems, traffic engineering, and relevant South African standards. Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of road networks, intersections, highways, and associated infrastructure, ensuring compliance with SANS and industry best practices. Conduct feasibility studies, traffic analyses, and impact assessments for new projects. Manage all phases of civil engineering projects, from conceptualization through to construction supervision. Prepare detailed engineering designs, specifications, drawings, and tender documentation. Oversee the work of junior engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance and mentorship. Coordinate with clients, government agencies, environmental consultants, and other stakeholders to ensure project success. Manage project budgets and timelines, identifying and mitigating risks to project delivery. Perform quality control checks and site inspections to ensure construction meets design specifications. Stay updated on the latest technologies, software, and methodologies in civil engineering for roads and infrastructure. Contribute to business development efforts, including proposal writing and client presentations.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution. Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) registration with ECSA is mandatory. A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in civil engineering, with a strong focus on road and infrastructure design. Demonstrated experience in managing multi-disciplinary engineering projects. Proficiency in road design software such as Civil 3D, AutoCAD, or similar platforms. Strong knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, traffic engineering principles, and Pavement Engineering. Excellent project management, leadership, and communication skills. Experience in preparing tender documents and managing contractual aspects of projects. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently. Familiarity with the unique challenges and opportunities in the Northern Cape region is advantageous.
