Placements24 is seeking a proactive Project Engineer for a civil infrastructure program in Welkom, Free State. You will oversee road and infrastructure projects from planning through completion, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree, Pr. Eng. registration or progress toward it, and at least six years of relevant experience. Hybrid work supports site visits and office work in Welkom.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent civil engineering and construction company, is actively seeking a proactive and skilled Project Engineer to join their team in Welkom, Free State . This exciting role is centered around managing and overseeing the execution of various road and infrastructure projects, from initial planning through to completion. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in project coordination, resource management, and a deep understanding of civil engineering principles relevant to transportation infrastructure. You will be instrumental in ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Key Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise all phases of road and infrastructure projects, including planning, design review, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
• Develop detailed project schedules, manage timelines, and monitor progress against milestones.
• Oversee project budgets, control costs, and ensure efficient resource allocation.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, contractors, surveyors, and site personnel.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant engineering standards, building codes, safety regulations, and environmental policies.
• Conduct site visits to monitor progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions.
• Liaise with clients, local authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution and communication.
• Prepare project reports, progress updates, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
• Mentor junior engineers and support staff on site and in the office.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Professional registration with ECSA (Pr. Eng.) or a commitment to achieving it soon.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in managing civil infrastructure projects, particularly roads and earthworks.
• Solid understanding of project management methodologies and tools.
• Experience with contract administration and managing construction sites.
• Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and CAD software is advantageous.
• Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to problem-solve effectively under pressure.
• Experience working in the Free State province or similar challenging environments is a plus.
• Must be adaptable to a hybrid work model, balancing site visits with office-based responsibilities in Welkom .
