Job summary

The City of Compton is seeking an advanced journey level Civil Engineer to manage and oversee large public works projects, including drainage, roadways, and flood control infrastructure. This position reports to the City Engineer and requires independent work with minimal supervision.

Candidates must hold a P.E. license in California and have at least five years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience, preferably with a municipal or government agency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and five years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience, preferably with municipal/government agency.
• Advanced knowledge of civil engineering methods, design, and project documentation.
• Experience coordinating large, complex public works projects and ensuring compliance with codes and standards.

Responsibilities

• Manage assigned projects and resolve discrepancies between field conditions and design plans.
• Coordinate, prepare, and review complete projects including reports, calculations, plans, and provisions per City standards.
• Perform structural and technical analysis, evaluate design changes, and ensure conformity with codes and regulations.
• Perform drafting and computing work; compile field data for design and construction of roadways, flood control, and infrastructure.
• Conduct field tests and inspections to ensure quality and compliance with laws and safety standards.
• Respond to inquiries from citizens and agencies; maintain project records and files.
• Explain technical specifications and regulatory requirements; prepare technical reports and estimates.
• Willingness to perform other duties as assigned.
