Join to apply for the Senior Civil Engineer/Project Manager role at GEI Consultants, Inc.

GEI is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer / Project Manager to join our talented, highly motivated geotechnical team supporting our Knoxville, TN office, and expanding our regional practice. The successful candidate will oversee site-civil and geo-environmental projects related to site development, heavy industry, and solid waste management associated with Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR). Responsibilities include providing technical guidance, subject matter expertise, multidisciplinary oversight, mentoring junior staff, and leading innovative problem-solving efforts. Expertise in remedial action engineering—such as site remediation, power plant decommissioning, or CCR—is desirable.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing project teams and developing technical approaches for problem-solving, design documents, permits, and remedial construction.
  • Preparing proposals, technical reports, and regulatory submissions.
  • Managing CCR closure and groundwater remedial assessments and cost analyses.
  • Overseeing pre-design investigations, design documents, permitting, and remedial construction.
  • Leading project performance and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Demonstrating leadership to instill confidence among clients, vendors, and team members.
  • Managing work at the jobsite, providing guidance, and monitoring performance.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across locations.
  • Supporting construction-phase activities, including submittals, change orders, and inspections.
  • Building and maintaining client relationships.
  • Providing technical leadership for hazardous waste remediation under CERCLA and RCRA.
  • Serving as subject matter expert in remedial engineering, geology, or chemistry.
  • Developing and reviewing technical reports to ensure quality and compliance.

Minimum qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil, Structural, Environmental, Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
  • PE or PG license preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in related engineering fields.

Desired qualifications:

  • Knowledge of EPA and state CCR regulations.
  • Experience with waste landfills, utility industry, and CCR basin stability evaluation.
  • Large-scale civil construction experience.
  • 5+ years in project management and client relations.
