Overview
The Senior Civil Engineering Project Manager is responsible for managing the full scope of aviation-related engineering projects from proposal development through construction. This role includes overseeing all technical components, ensuring quality control and quality assurance, and coordinating internal engineering teams and external sub-consultants. The Project Manager will work closely with clients during all project phases—pursuit, design, and construction—and represent the firm at industry events and forums. This position is based in Orlando, FL.
Essential Functions (may include but are not limited to) :
Project Management
- Manage the design and execution of airport engineering projects, ensuring design accuracy and completeness.
- Lead various design elements to complete systems, components, surveys, investigations, and structures, in collaboration with team members.
- Prepare full project documentation, including plans, specifications, and engineering estimates, by collecting, assembling, and organizing relevant data.
- Apply and adapt standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria; develop solutions to project challenges.
- Work on multiple mid-to-large-sized projects simultaneously, maintaining adherence to budget and schedule.
- Develop proposals, bid documents, project reports, and technical studies.
- Participate in project meetings and present specific engineering components or progress updates.
- Coordinate technical and administrative efforts across internal teams and departments.
- Ensure engineering tasks meet contract obligations, project schedules, scopes, and budgets.
- Interpret contract specifications and resolve contractor conflicts regarding specifications, workmanship, material quality, etc.
- Track project milestones and manage ongoing project issues.
- Prepare monthly status reports and manage change orders as necessary.
- Represent the firm in client / contractor meetings and help resolve engineering and project management issues.
- Define project scopes, tasks, schedules, and budgets.
- Provide mentorship to junior staff, especially in airport design standards and project management best practices.
Business Development
- Assist with business development and marketing efforts.
- Attend and participate in industry forums and conferences.
- Identify and engage potential clients.
- Collaborate with officials, contractors, and project team members to maintain relationships.
- Prepare scopes and fee proposals for review.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Minimum of 12 years of experience; aviation-related background is preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Required Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
- Strong understanding of FAA Advisory Circulars and the federal / state funding and approval process.
- Familiarity with the North Carolina airport industry is desirable.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of staff, management, and clients.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Strong command of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and professional vocabulary.
Licensure
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida, with the ability to obtain licensure in additional states.
