Job summary

City of Compton is seeking a City Manager to oversee daily operations, plan and direct administrative activities, and coordinate with departments and outside agencies. You will provide high-level support to the City Manager and City Council, supervise staff, and ensure programs meet strategic goals.

The role requires a Bachelor's in business/public administration or related field, with a Master’s preferred, and at least six years in municipal government including three in leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, urban planning, or related field.
• Master's degree highly desirable.
• Six years of municipal administrative experience, including three years in management.
• Valid California Class C Driver's License.
• Knowledge of municipal finance, redevelopment law, and supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, directing, managing daily City operations and services.
• Coordinate activities with City departments and outside agencies; support City Manager and Council.
• Develop, implement and monitor administrative policies and programs.
• Ensure cost-effective operations and continuous improvement of service delivery.
• Supervise staff and negotiate contracts; represent City in meetings and negotiations.
• Attend professional group meetings and stay abreast of trends in municipal government.
