Job summary

The City of National City is seeking a Deputy City Manager to provide administrative direction to city departments, help implement City Council policies, and lead strategic initiatives in a dynamic, diverse community.

The ideal candidate will have a public administration background, a master’s degree preferred, and at least four years in senior municipal management roles, with strong budgeting, personnel, and policy experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in public or business administration, finance, or closely related field.
• Master's degree in public or business administration is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assumes full management responsibility for assigned functions and directs staff to implement City Council policy.
• Plans, directs, and coordinates work plans for assigned functions and evaluates methods.
• Oversees budget development, forecasting, and expenditures for assigned areas.
• Participates in the development of city goals, policies, and priorities with City leadership.
• Maintains communication with City Council and external agencies; represents the City Manager in meetings.
