Job summary

Optum is seeking a Senior I O Engineer specializing in CICS System Programming to maintain and optimize the CICS environment on IBM z/OS. You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure high system resilience, implement automated deployments, and guide disaster recovery planning.

You will use enterprise tools like BMC Mainview, Splunk, MXG and Omegamon to monitor health and performance, while supporting 24x7 operations from a remote US-based location.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree OR 10+ years of system programming experience.
• 8+ years of system programming including z/OS skills with TSO, JCL, started tasks, and RACF.
• 7+ years of CICS system programming experience including upgrades and applying RSUs to the CICS product and related ISV products.
• 7+ years of experience with multiple z/OS file types and file systems (PDS/PDSE, VSAM, zFS) and Unix commands.
• 7+ years of IT Service Management (ITSM) processes (Incident, Change, Release).
• 7+ years of experience with metric/monitoring tools to evaluate system health.
• Ability to work on-call for 24x7 operations.

Responsibilities

• Configure and optimize CICS environments on IBM z/OS across Multi-LPAR and Parallel Sysplex.
• Create and manage CICS regions and support application teams with definitions.
• Diagnose and resolve system incidents using monitoring tools.
• Support integration of z/OS Connect APIs and automated deployments with XL Deploy and Artifactory.
• Use AI tools to streamline workflows and analyze capacity metrics.
• Evaluate emerging tech trends to inform environment design and automation strategies.
• Coordinate with external vendors for diagnostic documentation and ticket management.
• Perform disaster recovery planning and region decommissioning.
