Job summary

Weeks Marine, Inc. is seeking a Chief Engineer to oversee the engine department aboard a hopper dredge. The role requires directing the engine crew, ensuring safe operation, and maintaining vessel systems to ABS/USCG SMS standards.

The position includes living aboard for a 21 days on/21 days off rotation and potential travel between home and vessel locations. The ideal candidate holds a USCG Chief Engineer license with unlimited HP, 8+ years of marine engineering experience, and demonstrates

Qualifications

  • USCG License – Chief Engineer, Unlimited HP required.
  • 8+ years marine engineering experience; licensed engineer on oceangoing or coastwise vessels preferred.
  • TWIC credential.
  • Ability to live aboard a vessel for 21 days on/21 days off; willingness to travel to vessel location.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English, written and verbal; logs and reports.
  • Must maintain current credentials with at least 6 months remaining before expiration.
  • Proven leadership to direct a multi-person engine department on a 24/7 watch schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all engine department operations ensuring safety, efficiency, and production of dredge.
  • Direct and supervise engineers and oilers; maintain safe working environment.
  • Set priorities for engine work; produce engine room work lists and PM schedules.
  • Issue orders to uphold SMS requirements and monitor safety and pollution prevention.
  • Coordinate with purchasing and shore personnel for materials; manage inventories and records.
  • Prepare daily/weekly/monthly engineering reports and logs; maintain Lloyds Register/USCG compliance.
  • Serve as senior technical authority aboard and resolve machinery issues.
