Job summary

Community Action Team, Inc. seeks a dependable Senior Center Kitchen Assistant to support meal preparation, service, and kitchen operations for older adults. You will help with food prep, inventory, sanitation, and ensuring a welcoming dining experience in the center.

Requirements include an Oregon Food Handler's Card, background check, CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain), and proficiency with Word and Excel. Full-time, on-site schedule 6:00 AM–2:30 PM or 6:00 AM–3:00 PM.

Qualifications

  • Valid Oregon Food Handler's Card required and must be maintained.
  • Background check and pre-employment drug screening required.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain within six months.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Experience in a commercial/institutional kitchen environment preferred.
  • Experience working with volunteers preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with food preparation according to approved menus and standardized recipes.
  • Assist with inventory management and maintenance of food storage areas.
  • Receive, unpack, label, store, date, and rotate food products and kitchen supplies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen work areas, equipment, appliances, refrigerators, freezers, storage areas, and dishwashing stations.
  • Perform routine cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, sanitizing surfaces, cleaning equipment, and laundering kitchen linens.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Provide courteous and professional service to participants, volunteers, staff, and the public.
  • Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to support daily meal service.
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Senior Center Kitchen Assistant

Do you enjoy preparing meals, maintaining an organized kitchen, and serving your community? Community Action Team (CAT) is seeking a dependable and team-oriented Senior Center Kitchen Assistant to support the preparation and service of nutritious meals for older adults in our community. This position plays an important role in meal preparation, kitchen sanitation, inventory organization, and maintaining a welcoming dining experience.

Requirements
  • Valid Oregon Food Handler's Card required and must be maintained throughout employment
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain certification within six months of hire
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel
  • Ability to multitask and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with volunteers, coworkers, and the public
  • Experience working in a commercial, institutional, school, community, or similar kitchen environment preferred
  • Experience working with volunteers preferred

Schedule
  • Full-Time
  • Monday through Friday
  • 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM (30-minute lunch) or 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM (1-hour lunch)
Pay Rate
  • $18.00 per hour
