Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a field inspector to support our Transportation Construction, Engineering and Inspection group at multiple project locations. The role involves performing complex inspections of roadway, bridges, drainage and related work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications and provisions.

The position requires strong communication, reading of drawings, and the ability to work with limited supervision.

Qualifications

Must have strong communication in English, both written and verbal.
Intermediate math skills including geometry and trigonometry.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly.
Advanced knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
Ability to read and explain construction plans, specifications and contracts.
Experience leading and instructing junior inspectors.

Responsibilities

Perform complex and routine inspections to ensure compliance with plans and specs.
Use advanced equipment and perform complex calculations for inspections.
Work under supervision appropriate to skill level.
Review drawings in preparation for inspections.
Document results and communicate to supervisor.
