Job summary

CDM Smith's CEI team is seeking a qualified Inspector to support on-site construction inspections across roadway, bridges, drainage, erosion control, and maintenance/traffic.

The role requires reading and interpreting construction plans, complex calculations, and the ability to lead and mentor junior inspectors. Domestic/international travel up to 20-40% is expected, with on-site work at project locations nationwide.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English.
• Intermediate knowledge of mathematical functions including geometry and trigonometry.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer applications.
• Advanced knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
• Ability to read, understand, interpret and explain construction plans and drawings, contract provisions, and specifications.
• Ability to lead and instruct more junior inspectors.

Responsibilities

• Performing both complex and routine inspections of construction to evaluate if appropriate materials and construction processes are used; and that construction conforms to plans, specifications, and special provisions.
• Uses higher grade of equipment and performs complex calculations to perform construction inspection.
• Works under limited supervision or direct supervision depending on the demonstrated knowledge for the specific assignment.
• Reviewing drawings to prepare for the construction inspection.
• Understands the design of the construction that will be inspected. Documenting and communicating the results of the inspection and communicates to the supervisor.
