Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an Inspector to join our Transportation CEI team to inspect and monitor construction at project sites across multiple locations, including roadways, bridges, drainage, erosion control and maintenance/traffic. This on-site role offers travel to various project sites with limited supervision and a direct impact on project success.

You will need to read and interpret construction plans and specifications, communicate findings to supervisors, and may guide junior inspectors.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 12 years of related experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Certifications from a State Highway Agency or NICET/ACI in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete if required by the client or jurisdiction.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

• Performing both complex and routine/standard inspections of construction to evaluate if appropriate materials and construction processes are used; and that construction conforms to plans, specifications, and special provisions.
• Uses higher grade of equipment and performs complex calculations to perform construction inspection.
• Works under limited supervision or direct supervision depending on the demonstrated knowledge for the specific assignment.
• Reviewing drawings to prepare for the construction inspection.
• Understands the design of the construction that will be inspected. Documenting and communicating the results of the inspection and communicates to the supervisor.
