Job summary

AXA XL is seeking a Senior Underwriter for Primary Casualty in the West Zone (Los Angeles and San Francisco). You will manage new and renewal business, assess risk using data and underwriting tools, and collaborate across actuarial, claims, legal and risk engineering teams.

You will drive quotations, binders and endorsements while cross-selling to maximize AXA XL’s capital deployment. Some travel (up to 20%) is required, with a focus on growth and prudent risk selection.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
• Progressive underwriting experience, including umbrella & excess casualty.
• Thorough knowledge of commercial insurance coverages and contracts.
• Experience working hands-on with actuarial colleagues.
• Effective project and time-management skills.
• Effective sales, marketing and negotiation skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Handle both new and renewal business in the West Region.
• Market and solicit new business opportunities from retail broker partners.
• Analyze submission data to determine risk for each account.
• Utilize underwriting tools to analyze complex casualty exposure.
• Adhere to guidelines and authorities; refer as needed to regional management.
• Collaborate with internal teams on current and prospective risks.
• Provide timely quotations, binders, policies and endorsements.
• Cross-sell with other units to maximize AXA XL’s capital deployment.
• Monitor market trends and contribute to regional planning.
• Travel up to 20% for client, broker and internal meetings.
