Job summary

Sanctuary for Families seeks a Senior Case Manager in New York City to support immigrant survivors of gender-based violence within the Immigration Intervention Project. You will provide social services, case management and advocacy to enhance client safety and wellbeing from five NYC offices, working with IIP attorneys and staff.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree, 2+ years’ relevant experience, and fluency in English and Spanish.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience required.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish required; fluency in an additional community language preferred.
  • Experience with immigrant survivors of gender-based violence and/or human trafficking is preferred.
  • Prior case management, paralegal or administrative experience.
  • Excellent judgment, attention to detail and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the provision of case management services to enhance safety and wellbeing for IIP clients, focusing on housing, benefits and self-sufficiency.
  • Mentor and train other case managers and interns within IIP.
  • Conduct screening interviews to assess needs and eligibility for public benefits.
  • Work with attorneys to interview clients and gather data for immigration applications.
  • Provide updates to the IIP team and train on important topics.
  • Assist with victim compensation applications, referrals, advocacy and safety services.
  • Screen clients for OTDA eligibility and help enroll for OTDA benefits.
  • Prepare requests for educational and financial assistance grants.
  • Refer clients to appropriate legal and social services.
  • Maintain accurate records in electronic databases.
  • Provide administrative support to CSBG/DYCD team.
  • Perform other duties as directed by Director.

Sanctuary for Families is New York’s leading service provider and advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking and related forms of gender violence. Every year, Sanctuary empowers thousands of adults and children to move from fear and abuse to safety and stability, transforming lives through a comprehensive range of services. We provide a range of wrap‑around services to help survivors rebuild their lives in the aftermath of abuse, and work to end gender violence through three key strategies: direct services, outreach and training, and systems‑change advocacy. Our services are available in 12 locations throughout New York City.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Case Manager is a key position within Sanctuary for Families’ Immigration Intervention Project (IIP), a legal services project that represents thousands of survivors of domestic violence, other forms of gender‑based violence, and human trafficking in a broad range of immigration matters. IIP represents clients in affirmative cases and in removal proceedings with claims for a full spectrum of immigration remedies, including U and T status, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) self‑petitions, battered spouse waivers, petitions for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), asylum applications, DACA, adjustment of status, and naturalization. IIP is committed to providing the highest quality legal representation to achieve positive outcomes for some of the City’s most vulnerable abuse survivors.

The Senior Case Manager supports the legal representation of immigrant victims of gender-based violence in New York City by providing clients with a wide range of urgently needed social, case management, and advocacy services to enhance client safety and overall wellbeing. The Senior Case Manager works directly with the staff covered under the same funding agreement (CSBG/DYCD) and oversees the case management of other IIP clients. The IIP operates from 5 locations in New York City; this Case Manager works out of the Manhattan office.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinates the provision of case management services to IIP clients to enhance their safety and overall wellbeing with a specific focus on housing, public benefits, and self‑sufficiency;
  • Mentors and trains other case managers and case management interns or volunteers within IIP;
  • Conduct screening interviews with immigrant survivors of gender-based violence to help assess need and eligibility for public benefits;
  • Work with the IIP attorneys and immigration specialists to interview clients and gather data in support of their immigration applications;
  • Regularly communicates with IIP team to provide updates on case management, including training the team on important topics;
  • Provide assistance with OVS victim compensation applications, as needed, information and referrals, personal advocacy and accompaniment, emotional support and safety services, and criminal/civil justice system assistance;
  • Coordinates screening IIP clients to screen for OTDA eligibility, and assist clients with enrollment for OTDA benefits, or otherwise providing appropriate information and referrals;
  • Prepare requests for educational and financial assistance grants for clients;
  • Refer victims of domestic violence and gender-based violence to appropriate legal and social services within and outside of Sanctuary for Families;
  • Maintain accurate records in electronic databases of current and potential clients;
  • Perform administrative support services to the CSBG/ DYCD team and IIP as needed;
  • Perform other project duties or special projects as directed by Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of (2) years of relevant work experience required;
  • Fluency in English and Spanish required; fluency in an additional relevant community language (e.g. French, Spanish, Urdu, Bengali, Arabic) preferred.
  • Experience working with immigrant survivors of gender-based violence and/or human trafficking preferred;
  • Prior case management, paralegal or administrative experience;
  • Excellent judgment and attention to detail;
  • Strong writing and analytical skills;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure;
  • Energetic and passionate about Sanctuary’s mission of ending gender-based violence and human trafficking;
  • Deep understanding of and ability to work well with people of diverse ethnic, cultural, religious, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds;

Budgeted Salary: $31.44 - $34.73 per hour (annualized base salary $57,229-$63,217); based on experience pursuant to wage scale in accordance with collective bargaining agreement

Work position is Full-time (standard 35 hours/week), Hourly/Non‑Exempt

Work schedule is currently Hybrid; must be able to meet organization's job location schedule obligation
