Job description

About Us

Sanctuary for Families is New York's leading service provider and advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking and related forms of gender violence. Every year, Sanctuary empowers thousands of adults and children to move from fear and abuse to safety and stability, transforming lives through a comprehensive range of services. We provide a range of wrap-around services to help survivors rebuild their lives in the aftermath of abuse, and work to end gender violence through three key strategies: direct services, outreach and training, and systems-change advocacy. Our services are available in 12 locations throughout New York City.

Position Overview

The Case Manager is an integral member of Sanctuary for Families' Anti-Trafficking Initiative, one of the nation's leading service providers for survivors of human trafficking and related forms of gender-based violence in the country. In addition to legal services, ATI provides its clients with a wide range of social, case management, and advocacy services.

This position entails working in a high-paced, dynamic, sometimes crisis-responsive environment, learning and navigating multiple systems, including law enforcement (federal and state), public housing, public assistance, and interfacing with public interest partner organizations while managing a direct service case load and grant-related administrative duties.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough needs assessments and develop individualized service plans to address the unique needs of each client;
  • Coordinate case management services under the supervision of the ATI Senior Supervising Clinician;
  • Offer immediate support, safety planning and intervention to clients experiencing crises, coordinating referrals and placements such as shelter and medical treatment;
  • Help clients secure safe and stable housing, including enrolling them in NYC housing programs and coordinating temporary shelter as needed;
  • Assist clients in applying for and obtaining public benefits such as Medicaid, food stamps, cash assistance, and childcare subsidies;
  • Provide job readiness support, including resume building, job search assistance, and connecting clients with job training programs;
  • Assist clients in accessing educational opportunities, including ESL classes, GED programs, and higher education;
  • Connect clients with appropriate services, including legal assistance, healthcare, mental health services, and educational programs;
  • Mentor and train interns;
  • Prepare requests for educational and financial assistance grants on behalf of clients;
  • Advocate on behalf of clients with service providers, government agencies, and other organizations to ensure they receive the necessary support and services;
  • Collaborate with ATI attorneys and pro bono counsel to ensure wrap-around, client centered, holistic survivor services;
  • Prepare and submit grant-required documentation in collaboration with the Senior Supervising Clinician and the ATI Director;
  • Support administrative compliance with funder reporting protocols, including case management data tracking and report preparation;
  • Maintain and update electronic client records in Salesforce in a timely manner. Perform additional administrative support services for ATI;
  • Perform other department or agency-related duties or special projects as directed by the ATI Senior Supervising Clinician and/or the Director of the Anti-Trafficking Initiative.
Requirements
  • B.A. or relevant work experience required;
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required;
  • Ability to work respectfully with clients from many different cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds;
  • Experience working with immigrant communities and survivors of trauma, with a strong understanding of gender-based violence and its impact, and a commitment to trauma-informed care;
  • Experience navigating NYC public benefits programs and housing resources;
  • Strong ability to work independently;
  • Excellent judgment, multitasking abilities, and organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills;
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills;
  • Ability to be persistent and flexible to accomplish excellent service provision;
  • Positive and solution-oriented, especially under pressure;
