Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA) is hiring a Carpentry & Drywall Technician III in Norfolk, VA. The role performs cabinet installation, drywall work, painting, and related maintenance to ensure housing units meet standards.

The position emphasizes safety, HUD/PHAS compliance, and preparing units for new tenants. Applicants should have a high school diploma with vocational training in building maintenance and 2–5 years of residential maintenance experience.

Qualifications

• High school education with a vocational education program in building maintenance.
• Two to five years of progressively responsible experience in residential building maintenance.
• Any equivalent combination of training, education,and experience necessary to obtain the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Primarily performs cabinet installation, drywall installation, drywall repairs, drywall finishing and painting.
• Measures, cut, and assemble wood or metal framing, doors, windows, trim, staircases, and cabinetry.
• Hangs drywall panels securely onto wood or steel frameworks using screws, nails, or adhesives.
• Apply tape, joint compound (mud), and texture to seams and screw holes, then sand surfaces smooth for painting.
• Assists in training lesser skilled maintenance staff.
