Everport Terminal Services in Tacoma seeks an Operations Labor Manager to direct longshore labor for cargo discharge/load, maximizing productivity while promoting safety and regulatory compliance.

The role oversees labor performance, overtime, payroll accuracy, and labor relations, ensuring efficient terminal operations and cost control. Candidates will lead by example and coordinate with union officials and business agents.

Competenze

• Bachelor's degree in marine operations or related discipline (may have equivalent experience instead of degree).
• Prior supervisory or management, project or team leader experience in container terminal operations, maritime transportation, or related industry.
• Ability to work any shift including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to lead by example, adapt to changing circumstances, communicate effectively, build strong teams, make sound decisions, resolve problems, and develop rapport with Business Agents, Union Officials and Longshore labor.
• Ability to make quick decisions and coordinate efficient execution with a plan of action.
• Strong leadership skills and ability to inspire others to achieve goals and maintain high performance standards.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, plan effectively, and manage time.
• Knowledge of container terminal operations, vessel cargo plans, and sequencing of cargo handling.
• Ability to administer and discipline Longshore labor with independent judgment and discretion.
• Effective oral and written communication with teams and individuals.
• MS Office (Word & Excel) proficiency; knowledge of Terminal Operating System is a plus.

• Manage longshore labor to achieve maximum productivity and optimize costs by ensuring adherence to cargo handling standards.
• Monitor payroll records, authorize overtime, and verify payroll accuracy.
• Oversee hiring, scheduling, discipline, and performance of labor.
• Determine terminal equipment needs and coordinate with other departments; resolve issues.
• Ensure compliance with safety codes, regulations, and company policy.
• Interpret and apply longshore contracts; address grievances and resolutions with business agents and union officials.
• Participate in Labor Relations Committee meetings to determine appropriate resolutions.
• Advise senior management on operational issues impacting production.
• Prepare shift production and safety reports and summaries.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, damages, and injuries; respond to unsafe operations and generate reports.
• Perform other job-related duties as required.
