Job summary

Lovington Healthcare is seeking a cook to prepare meals according to menus and standardized recipes, while ensuring safety and timely service. You will review menus, monitor temperatures, and assist with ordering, storage and diet considerations in a hospital-like kitchen.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalency and prior cook experience, preferably in long-term care. You will work on-site in Lovington, NM, with a focus on quality nutrition and patient satisfaction.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency required or preferred.
• Two years as cook in a large-scale operation preferred.
• One year’s experience in long term care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares meal items according to planned menus and standardized recipes; escalate changes to supervisor or dietitian as needed.
• Reviews menus, census information, production guides and sheets to determine food quantities.
• Prepares food following safety guidelines per policy and state/federal codes.
• Assists with food ordering, storage and preparation; serves meals in a timely manner.
• Maintains standards for food prep and quality; uses substitutes when required.
• Operates kitchen equipment (blenders, mixers, slicers, steamers, ovens, ranges).
• Prepares diet-modified foods and assists with special meals.
• Washes, peels and cuts vegetables/fruits; portions meat for nutrition accuracy.
• Presents food attractively; tests taste for palatability; monitors temperatures.
• Records menu changes and uses substitutes with supervisor approval.
• Maintains hygiene: handwashing, proper packaging, labeling, and fridge temps.
• Follows cleaning schedule; cleans area after use; may take out trash; washes pots/pans.
• Ensures meals are prepared to meet schedules; responds to dietary manager guidance.
• Dietary Aide reports to Cook in absence of Dietary Manager.
• Other duties may be assigned at any time.

Education
