Job summary

George Washington University Hospital (GW Hospital) in the DC area is seeking a Senior Surgical Tech to support the cardiac surgery team. You will maintain a sterile field, pass instruments, and ensure equipment readiness for complex procedures in a high-acuity setting.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
• Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential.
• Minimum 2 years of recent surgical tech experience, with open heart/cardiac surgery experience required.
• BLS (AHA-certified).

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain the sterile operating field.
• Assist surgeons during cardiac procedures by passing instruments and anticipating needs.
• Operate and troubleshoot specialized surgical equipment.
• Ensure proper handling and accountability of surgical instruments and supplies.
• Support and mentor junior surgical techs and assist with staff training.
• Strictly adhere to infection control and patient safety protocols.
• Document procedures and maintain accurate records.
