Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System's Cardiac Surgery Progressive Care Unit seeks experienced nurses to provide specialized postoperative care. You will work with surgeons, APPs, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality care for patients recovering from advanced cardiac and vascular surgeries.

The role emphasizes clinical expertise development, patient safety, and participation in unit governance and education. A BSN is preferred, with MD licensure and CPR certification required.

Qualifications

• RN license in Maryland or eligible via Compact state agreements.
• BSN preferred for advanced patient care.
• Current CPR certification is required.
• One year nursing experience in a clinical setting is expected.
• Maintenance of 10 contact hours of education every two years.
• Active professional membership is encouraged.
• Recent clinical experience in a comparable setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide independent care to unit-specific patients as a participating team member.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams to plan and coordinate patient care.
• Act as a clinical resource and mentor for staff as needed.
• Support charge nurse decisions and cover charge roles.
• Contribute to Quality Improvement and patient safety initiatives.
