Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Senior Executive Underwriter to manage Captive programs, underwriting workers compensation, general liability and auto lines. The role emphasizes relationship building with clients and internal partners, program management, and achieving underwriting excellence.

Hybrid work is expected; travel about 10–25% is possible. Base pay ranges from $124,000 to $199,800, with additional bonus potential and total compensation consideration based on position and experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• 5+ years of Auto Liability, Workers’ Compensation, and General Liability underwriting experience
• Construction underwriting experience desirable
• Experience with Captive insurance programs desirable
• Strong Excel and Math skills
• Strong loss responsive or captive program and pricing knowledge
• Strong coverage knowledge
• Superior relationship building skills including influencing and negotiation skills
• Robust problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Outstanding at providing Customer Service
• Ability to travel approximately 10% - 25%

Responsibilities

• Technical Underwriting and Risk Selection: rigorously analyzes underwriting information in assessing risk for each account.
• Program Management: involvement in actuarial pricing, claim or TPA oversight, reinsurance accounting and collateral management.
• Production Underwriting and Sales: strives to write profitable new business and grow Captive Programs.
• Manage program to achieve underwriting excellence, pricing adequacy and ROE targets.
• Builds strong relationships with Captive customers and Captive Managers.
• Closely manages results and takes actions to address shortfalls.
