Job summary

SmithGroup—Washington, DC office—seeks a Senior Campus Planner to lead campus planning teams for higher education clients. You will guide multi-disciplinary staff, manage client relationships, and drive project presentations and reports across all planning phases.

The role requires 15+ years in AE, licensure, and strong leadership. Travel 25–30% and a hybrid workplace are expected, with a competitive salary and benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Requires professional degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Urban Planning or equivalent experience.
  • 15+ years of related experience in AE/Architecture/Planning.
  • Registration or licensure in relevant field.
  • Proven track record of winning campus planning work with higher education clients.
  • Experience with higher education clients through all campus planning phases.
  • Sustainability credentials or willingness to certify within six months.
  • Strong leadership and team-based collaboration, client satisfaction, and technical competence.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to manage budgets and deadlines.
  • Ability to travel regionally and/or nationally 25-30%.

Responsibilities

  • Provide team leadership, management, and strategy for campus planning growth.
  • Lead interdisciplinary campus planning teams in various senior roles.
  • Lead meetings with internal and external stakeholders to share findings and recommendations.
  • Communicate planning issues and opportunities to campus and community stakeholders.
  • Oversee creation of project presentations, plan reports, and deliverables.
  • Support business development and market engagement for the Campus Planning Studio.
  • Represent SmithGroup’s higher education campus planning at conferences and client events.
  • Collaborate with design leadership to advance design quality and sustainability.
